The Egoscue Method is an exercise-based system designed
to re-align the four sets of weight bearing joints (i.e.
the shoulder, hips, knees and ankles). Each set of
joints should be level with each other horizontally (i.e.
both hips at same height), and in the same line vertically
(i.e. shoulders over hips over knees over ankles). This
framework of right angles ensures that the weight of the
body is distributed evenly over all the joints. If
this alignment changes through, say one hip becoming higher
than the other, the weight is no longer evenly spread and
some muscles have to do more work than others. Over
time, this can result in pain and poor posture.
What's
Involved
Each appointment lasts for 2 hours and includes:
Postural analysis – visual
and photographic assessment of your specific
misalignments
Functional testing – self
awareness, muscle, and gait tests to assess your
ability to perform certain movements
Menu creation – a
series of exercises designed to target your individual
misalignments will be created
You will leave the
appointment with a custom-designed menu of exercises
that can be done easily on your own until the
next appointment.
One week to one month later (depending on your
condition) you will attend the next session where
your progress will be assessed and another menu
prepared. This
process is repeated until correct alignment has been
restored. This can take some time.
